Kapi‘olani Community College, University of Hawai‘i - NMA Interface Design
This NMA Internship course is designed to provide real-world, supervised work experience with mentorship by a professional in the field, enabling students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to the work environment.
Internships are invaluable. Students get real world experience and exposure to the local industry and local companies get to work closely with NMA students and consider them as potential future hires. Ideal internships consist of a professional environment with creative projects with guided mentorship. Students are expected to be mature, reliable, strong communicators, and good team players. Several NMA internships have turned into full-time job offers.

Every Thursday, from ~8am-2pm, I will be available to meet with students 1-on-1 via Zoom (meeting id and password will be sent via email). All Zoom sessions are optional and shared with my outher courses/ "Open Thursdays" for those that are able to join in at any time and/or sign-up for a time slot in advance via Calendly.
Book a 1-on-1 MeetingThe final class gathering will be conducted online “synchronously” (live) via zoom on Thursday, May 7th from 12:30pm-1:30pm. We will all connect via zoom at the same time and each student will have an opportunity to breifly share your spring NMA internship experiences with the group.
Need help? Wondering how to best get in touch with me? There are multiple ways to contact me (e.g. email, Laulima, office phone, etc.), but the quickest, easiest, and best way is via Slack. You can either message me directly/privately (@Chris Gargiulo) or send a larger group message to the entire class via our private Slack channel (#art128). Designers and developers at top agencies use Slack, so should you. :)
At the end of the semester, during the last week of instruction (Week 17), we will all be meeting "synchronously" on Thursday May 7th from 12:30pm-1:30pm via Zoom for a quick (1 hour) talk story session (celebration) of your internships. Be sure to post your internship final briefs in advance (either by posting them on your class website or via direct email to me or via your Laulima private Drop Box). Please note that this meeting will be short (1 hour), so we only spend ~5min per student for a brief summary/overview of your spring internship experience.
